Garmin's first navigator designed for the trucking industry, the nuvi 465T brings a trucking-friendly set of features to Garmin's already excellent nuvi product line. If you drive a large vehicle, the 465T can navigate routes based on your truck's type, load, and physical restrictions. Even better, routing is customizable by height, weight, length, width, and hazardous materials.
The nuvi 465T also includes free lifetime traffic, Bluetooth wireless, speaks street names, and comes with a pre-loaded NTTS Breakdown Directory. When not driving a truck, the 465T can be put into standard vehicle mode, and functions as any other Garmin nuvi.

Figure 2: Everything That's Included in the Box
The nuvi 465T includes the following items in the box:

Figure 3: Garmin nuvi 465T, Front
Physically, the nuvi 465T looks and feels identical to Garmin's other 4.3-inch GPS units, such as the 265WT, and 755T.
A simple black plastic case frames the 4.3-inch color touchscreen display (480 x 272 Pixels). A microphone (used for hands-free calling when the 465T is paired with a compatible Bluetooth-enabled cell phone) is located on the right side of the device. Notice that there are no physical controls on the nuvi 465T; except for the power switch, all controls are performed via the 4.3-inch touchscreen.

Figure 4: Garmin nuvi 465T, Rear
A single speaker is located at the rear of the nuvi 465T. Used both for power and for connecting the nuvi to a PC/Mac, the mini-USB connector is located on the back of the unit.

Figure 5: Garmin nuvi 465T, Top
The power key is located on the top of the nuvi 465T. Sliding the power switch to the left turns the unit on or off. Sliding the switch to the right locks the screen.

Figure 7: Garmin nuvi 465T, Left Side
The nuvi 465T comes pre-loaded with maps of North America (United States, Canada, & Puerto Rico) stored on its internal memory.
If you need more space, or want to install additional maps, an SD memory card slot is provided on the left side of the device. SD Memory cards aren't required for basic operation, as the maps are pre-loaded on internal memory.

Figure 8: Garmin nuvi 465T, Right Side
Measuring 0.8-inches thick, the nuvi 465T is relatively thin, and about the same size as Garmin's other nuvi models.

Figure 9: Mounting Hardware
The nuvi 465T ships with slightly different vehicle mounting hardware than other, non trucking-friendly Garmin nuvis. Most notably, the suction-cup style windshield mount is replaced by the

Figure 10: Mounting Arm, Connected to Mounting Base
The Mounting Arm slide into the Mounting base until it 'clicks' into position. The arm can then bo rotated 360 degrees in either direction until the locking lever is moved to the locked position.

Figure 11: Mount and Cradle, Assembled
The cradle snaps onto the tip of the mounting arm, to form a fully assembled mount, as shown above.

Figure 12: Dash Mount
Once assembled, the cradle forms a ball-and-socket type joint with the mounting arm. There's enough tension that the GPS is held firmly in place, but can still be easily adjusted with one hand, and without having to twist any knobs or throw any levers.

Figure 13: Nuvi 465T, Docked
The nuvi 465T snaps easily into the cradle, shown above.
Garmin provides an excellent, simple, and effective windshield mount. The only minor disappointment is that the 465T uses a passive mount, so you'll have to connect the power cable to the back of the GPS whenever you dock or un-dock it (active mounts provide power to the GPS, so you don't have to connect or disconnect any cables when docking or undocking the device).

Figure 14: Adhesive Disks
Garmin includes two different adhesive mounting disks with the nuvi 465T: a "Temporary Disk", and a "Permanent Disk". The double-side adhesive "disk" sticks to the bottom of the mounting base, and your vehicle's dashboard.
As the names imply, the temporary disk is intended for mounting the 465T someplace where you might later want to remove it without damaging the dashboard. The permanent disk's adhesive is much stronger, and the disk is extremely difficult to remove once it is applied. We'll cover installing the adhesive disks in the next section of this review.

Figure 15: Vehicle Power Adapter
The 465T includes a 12v vehicle power adapter that has a traffic antenna built into the cable. The provided cable is about 2.5 times longer than the cable Garmin includes with nuvi GPS models not designed for use in a large truck. The extra cable length might be necessary for your installation, depending on the configuration of your vehicle.

Figure 16: Connecting the Power Cable to the 465T
One end of the power cable connects to your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket, the other to the mini-usb plug on the rear of the 465T.
